21st Century Wisdom · London & Brighton
Intelligent people often find themselves stuck — not from lack of knowledge, but from how they're thinking. Powerful conversations can change that.

The Challenge
No matter how intelligent, capable or experienced you are — sometimes something won't shift. That's rarely about a lack of knowledge or effort. It's about how you're thinking.
When your relationship to your thinking changes, your options change. And when your options change, your life changes.
The presenting issues vary. The underlying pattern rarely does:
How We Work Together
You are not just a job title. You are not your past. You are not just a collection of behaviours to optimise.
You are a whole person - with beliefs, assumptions, fears, ambitions, identity, and history.
Professional challenges are rarely purely professional. Personal struggles rarely stay contained.
My work integrates the whole person and builds on something I have seen confirmed again and again: that human beings have immense potential and a unique, often underestimated capacity to adapt, learn and grow.
All this is why change is possible.
Two Clear Pathways
If you carry responsibility, make difficult decisions, or lead others — the quality of your thinking matters. Together we can sharpen perspectives when complexity increases.
Your inner world is the foundation of all of this:
If something in your inner world feels stuck — anxiety, self-doubt, limiting beliefs — we can work directly and practically with that. Change does not require years of excavation.
It requires new ways of seeing and responding.
Introducing David
I'm David. I've spent nearly 15 years helping people think more clearly, respond more deliberately, and live more fully — drawing on philosophy, psychology, and a genuine fascination with why human beings do what they do.
My background spans leadership, engineering, software, creativity, and long-distance running. I bring analytical rigour and human warmth in equal measure — an approach that has resonated with everyone from athletes and artists to leaders at Nike, the Big 4, and beyond.
The Foundation
Human beings have wrestled with how to live well for millennia. Modern neuroscience and behavioural science increasingly confirm what ancient philosophers understood: how we interpret events shapes how we experience them.
My work integrates both — ancient wisdom and contemporary psychology — and applies them rigorously to your real-world challenges.
Stoic practice, mindfulness traditions, and deep philosophical enquiry into the nature of your challenges.
Evidence-informed methods drawn from individual psychology, solution-focused approaches, and neuroscience.
Coaching, clean language, behavioural change and inner-game methods — applied according to what will genuinely serve you.

Executive & Leadership Coaching
If you are in a position of responsibility, you are constantly interpreting markets, people, risk — and yourself. The higher you rise, the fewer safe spaces you have to think out loud.
The Problem
Surrounded by capable people, yet lacking a space for rigorous reflection. When you are inside the system, it is difficult to see the frame you are using.
You may not need more information. You may need sharper inquiry.
I have worked with clients from Nike, Big 4 accountancy firms, public sector leadership, entrepreneurs, and property investors. The common thread is not their industry — it's a willingness to examine how they think.
The intelligent think harder. The wise hone their relationship with thought itself.
This is where strategic wisdom emerges.
The Approach
Born around 470BC, Socrates gave no speeches and authored no texts. He asked questions — unusual, precise questions that exposed hidden assumptions.
In executive coaching, this matters enormously. My role is to help you examine the implicit assumptions behind your decisions, the narratives shaping your leadership, and the interpretations driving your reactions.
I am not here to tell you what to think. My role is to challenge and refine the mechanics of how you think.
I may challenge the frame you are using, offer insights from philosophy, psychology and behavioural science, or at times provide direct tools or mentoring — always in service of your strategic wisdom.
Common Areas
Navigating uncertainty with greater clarity and less reactivity
Difficult dynamics, influence, and communication at senior level
Confidence that is felt, not performed
Major moves made with wisdom, not anxiety
Managing competing demands without losing yourself
Aligning what you do with who you are

Personal Change & Therapeutic Coaching
You may know exactly what you want to change. And yet something stays the same. I understand how much of a shadow anxiety or self-doubt can cast. This work is practical and future-oriented.
The Challenge
A fear. A pattern. A belief. Anxiety in specific situations. A voice that limits you.
You may have spent a long time asking yourself "Why?" — you may even understand where it came from. But understanding alone does not always create change.
What you may be seeking is not relief alone — but a wiser relationship with your own mind.
Many of the issues people struggle with are simply feedback from their cognitive systems — alerting them that tune-ups are needed. It takes wisdom and practice to understand that.
"People are not disturbed by things, but by the view they take of them."Albert Ellis · Founder of REBT
Also
You may not have issues to work through — you may simply be ready to reach for something new. If you're goal-seeking, making a life transition, or pursuing transformation, I'll provide structured challenge and support while you do.
As well as working on your inner game — the thoughts and beliefs that support your pursuit — I'll help you define and refine the systems and habits you'll need to get there. This too is applied wisdom in action.
A Forward-Focused Approach
New relationship with fear and the situations that trigger it
New understandings — not techniques — around what confidence actually is
A settled, grounded baseline from which to respond to life
Liberation from specific fears, phobias, or limiting beliefs
A stronger sense that you can respond differently — and do
The ability to do more and achieve greater fulfilment
Underlying all of this is a deeper shift — the development of practical wisdom. Life will seem lighter, brighter and more fulfilling.
How We Work
We apply proven techniques and methods focused on what you actually want, how your current thinking may be sustaining the problem, new interpretations and responses, and what new habits or behaviours will create the change you want.
We will work to expand your flexibility and options, and enhance your sense of agency — your ability to choose different responses and take different actions.
This work is not for everyone
For you to experience change, you will need to think differently, do things differently, or do different things. There can be no change without difference.
And while a single question might be a powerful catalyst for change, I don't offer quick fixes.
This work suits people who are ready to be active participants in their own change. It is not a passive experience — but the results can be profound.
Fees
Fees for personal change-work are discussed individually and structured appropriately.
I regularly offer reduced-fee spaces for committed individuals who need an affordable pathway. If you're serious about change, the financial cost shouldn't be a barrier.Begin Here

Methodology
Human beings have wrestled with how to live well for millennia. What has changed is not the question, but the tools we have for understanding it. This is where philosophy meets science meets practical change.
A Core Observation
The Stoic emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote: "You have power over your mind — not outside events." Modern cognitive science reaches the same conclusion.
Much of human suffering — and many professional limitations — arise not from events themselves, but from rigid or unconscious interpretations of them.
Understanding this principle and living in full accordance with it: that is true wisdom.
My work integrates insights from three core pillars - Philosophy and Ancient Wisdom, Psychology and Cognitive Science, and Practical Tools
These are not applied as rigid systems. They are lenses and tools — each with a proven capacity to shift perspectives and accelerate change. I select and integrate them responsibly, according to what will genuinely serve you.
The ultimate test is simple: does this help you think more clearly, act more deliberately, and live more fully?
Three Pillars
Philosophical enquiry applied to discover the nature of your challenges
Scientific rigour applied to create momentum and lasting change
Applied methods to shift mindsets and deepen understanding
The Process
Sessions are available online worldwide via video call, or in person in London or Brighton. Every client is different — meaningful change requires structure, but also space for emergence.
Clarify outcomes and uncover the leverage points that will create most change.
Refine your thinking and begin experimenting with new responses and perspectives.
Consolidate change and design sustainable habits and systems to achieve the desired outcome.
While insight can happen in a moment, wisdom is stabilised through time via habits, systems and practices. What happens between sessions — your reflective practice and behavioural experiments — is often where the deepest change occurs.
For many clients, three sessions are sufficient. Others choose ongoing work to deepen and stabilise progress.
"Your life is what your thoughts make it."Marcus Aurelius

About David
A genuine fascination with why human beings do what they do — and how they can change.
My Story
I have long been fascinated by why human beings do what they do — and how they can change. As a teenager, I became deeply interested in personal development. Later, during a significant personal challenge, I experienced coaching that shifted my perspectives in a profound way.
It wasn't advice. It wasn't analysis. It wasn't even an understanding of "why."
It was clarity about what I actually wanted. It was the uncovering of options I couldn't see. It was a new window on possibility.
That experience fundamentally shifted how I approached the problem — and showed me how powerful a structured conversation could be. It taught me that in spite of my intelligence, I'd failed to act with wisdom.
That experience set the course for everything that followed.
What Struck Me
Modern cognitive science echoes the same principle. We live inside interpretations. When those interpretations shift, so does our experience of life.
My approach is founded upon formal training in coaching, hypnosis and neuro-linguistics, alongside sustained personal study in mindfulness, meditation, psychology, modern neuroscience, and philosophy.
Professional Background
My background spans leadership, engineering, software development, technology, long-distance running, and creative disciplines. I consider this breadth a significant asset in my work.
Blending music, dancing, and creativity with the logic of mathematics, software coding and engineering has proved to be highly effective in facilitating change for clients.
I hold a Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). I am co-developer of the FLIP™ coaching methodology, which integrates solution-focused brief therapy with traditional coaching principles.
I have worked with a wide range of individuals and teams: creatives from Nike, lawyers and partners from Big 4 accountancy multinationals, property magnates, entrepreneurs, professional sports people, public sector leaders, and CEOs of established businesses.
All have reported shifts in their mindsets and a deepening of their wisdom — which has resulted in practical changes in how they respond to real life.
I have set up and co-run a community of practice for other professional coaches with hundreds of members, sharing advice, facilitating practice sessions, training and workshops.
Why This Work Matters to Me
One well-placed question once changed the way I approached a significant challenge in my own life. And I've seen the same happen for others — they pause, they think a thought they've never had before, and suddenly, reality is never quite the same again.
I have dedicated myself to understanding why change happens — and how to facilitate it responsibly. Human beings have far more capacity for change than they often realise.
Sometimes the shift begins with perspective.
Sometimes with courage.
Often, it begins with a conversation.
